- (including asthma and heart problems), Bob
- was always a terrific athlete. He starred in
- basketball and baseball in high school, and
- was given a basketball scholarship to
- Creighton University in Nebraska. After
- finishing college, Bob played basketball with
- the Harlem Globetrotters for a year. In 1957,
- when he was 21 years old, he signed with
- the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.
