  1.                                 Bob Gibson grew from a 
  2.                                 sickly child into one of the 
  3.                                 most dominant pitchers in 
  4.                                 baseball history. 
  5.  
  6. Despite his many childhood ailments 
  7. (including asthma and heart problems), Bob 
  8. was always a terrific athlete. He starred in 
  9. basketball and baseball in high school, and 
  10. was given a basketball scholarship to 
  11. Creighton University in Nebraska. After 
  12. finishing college, Bob played basketball with 
  13. the Harlem Globetrotters for a year. In 1957, 
  14. when he was 21 years old, he signed with
  15. the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. 
  16. Within two years, he was pitching in the
  17. major leagues.

  19. From 1962 to 1966, Bob averaged 230
